the new tumblr “safe mode” is shit

roguejedis:

  • so tumblr recently unveiled it’s new safe mode that blocks “sensitive content” on dashboards and completely on mobile.
  • if you’re under 18, there’s no way to turn it off.
  • it wouldn’t be too much of a problem if it was just like blocking p/orn or ns/fw art or anything, but, as it’s tumblr and therefore not a functioning website, it blocks like everything else except that stuff
  • for example, it blocks a ton of posts having to do with anything lgbt-related…. because kids need to be protected from the big scary gays amirite….
    • and also it blocks a ton of other innocent stuff like comic edits that have nothing inappropriate at all about them??

tldr; tumblr is censoring non nsf/w gay content just for the hell of it. you can let them know how you feel about that here

below the readmore are some examples of posts blocked by safe mode

White LGBT people come up with various flags, make additions to and subtract colors from Gilbert Baker’s original flag, and create variations on the original flag’s theme all the time. Yet when one community - the Philadelphia LGBT community to be specific - wants to include black and brown colors in the flag to 1) highlight the presence of black and brown LGBT people in the city, 2) make notice of the trials and tribulations LGBT people of color have gone through as a result of homophobia and racism, 3) draw attention to intracommunity racism, and 4) remind everyone that LGBT people of color’s contributions to the community have been endless, important, and yet sadly discredited (and even appropriated) - suddenly white LGBT people are all about historical purism! Suddenly they cry that “race and sexuality have nothing to do with each other!”. Does that also apply when white LGBT people refuse to let LGBT people of color into clubs and spaces, or refuse to date them, or don’t even befriend them? Please do let me know.

Reblog if you genuinely support asexuals

addignisherlock:

It terrifies me that there’s so much raging passion in the lgbt+ community that insist on marginalizing asexuals and implying that asexuals don’t deserve to have safe spaces. There’s still so much acephobia so I just wanna know which blogs are genuinely supportive and a safe space for asexuals

everytime you deny a female character being headcanoned as a lesbian because “she’s been with a guy before” you owe every lesbian who has struggled with compulsory heterosexuality 15 €

this was for a school project but also a power move and my favorite pic of me

listen i don’t know if this was the original point of the piece but this is literally one of the most powerful images I’ve seen in relation to female artists and sexuality

it is a HUGE issue to get modern art historians to recognize historical lgbtq+ artists, especially women. A female artist could have never married, spent time with other publicly lgbt figures, and been living with a female partner for most of their lives, and yet you still get art historians who will jokingly be like “I guess that makes them a lesbian right? haha!” um yeah, professor janet, it does, and it’s not a joke

with that context, this piece gains an incredible amount of depth. I could write a full ten page paper on this piece alone. This is a self portrait (which beautifully and ironically emulates classic Renaissance formula) says “I am an artist, and I’m gay” in a way that by definition cannot be removed or questioned. Power move indeed, holy shit

what a nice and wholesome comment on this!!

ripley’s believe it or else
